Methods for Locating Well Water Before Drilling

There are currently five known methods for locating well water before drilling. Four of the methods are based on science; one is based on magic and tradition. They vary in accuracy, reliability, and cost.
They are as follows...

1. Dowsing or witching; some people believe works even though it has been extensively put to the test, and found wanting. There is currently no scientific evidence to support the claims that dowsers can find well water.

2. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance;
This method has promise but is still in the experimental stages, and will likely not be affordable to the average farmer or land-owner.

3. Self Potential; this method is used as a means of detecting the flow of a known water source. This method is simple, inexpensive and unreliable for locating groundwater, due to many factors that may produce similar results.

4. Bore hole Hydro Physical Logging;
This method involves drilling a series of holes deep into the ground and doing a series of extensive tests in order to map, determine depth and water quality of the aquifer. This method is used by municipal water districts and developers to locate new groundwater sources for growing populations and is very expensive.

5. Seismoelectric Method; by Southwest Groundwater Surveying;
 This method has been found to be the most accurate and cost effective method for locating groundwater for wells prior to drilling, and is quickly becoming the method of choice for land-owners, farmers, developers, Utility companies, and domestic wells.
